FOUNDATION OF CEDANZE – AJPP-CECA・MESTRE FAÍSCA ・ SANTIAGO, CHILE

The story of CEDANZE Academia João Pequeno de Pastinha – CECA in Santiago, Chile, begins in 2022 when LUIZ CARLOS SILVA DOS SANTOS JUNIOR, monitor Lula-Curuzu da Liberdade, disciple of Mestre Faísca, met once a week with the approval and support of Mestre Faísca with: Ignacio A. Ibañez Valenzuela (Nacho), Hari G. T. Marshall and Dominic Jermaine Bednar in a self-managed space in the Chilean capital.

There, they developed the movements, songs, and percussive rhythms of Capoeira Angola under the technique of Mestre João Pequeno de Pastinha.

In a short time, he joined the Heraldo Corvacho group, which had its roots in the Rastafari movement in Chile, and at that time, the Capoeira Angola classes were moved to Pabellón 8, Los Ediles 750, Pudahuel, Metropolitan Region, Chile.

Under the coordination of Master Faísca, monitor Lula-Curuzu da Liberdade continued his constant work of articulating, disseminating, and teaching Afro-Brazilian culture through traditional Capoeira Angola and Samba de Roda from the Recôncavo Baiano region in the city of Santiago and other regions of Chile.

The Lula-Curuzu da Liberdade monitor promoted activities of Capoeira Angola, Samba de Roda from the Reconcavo Baiano region, as well as debates on the African diaspora in academic and cultural institutions such as the Universities: De Playa Ancha, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Alberto Hurtado, the University of Chile, and the University of Santiago.

On one occasion, through a video call, we had the special participation of Master Faísca, who was in Paris, France, strengthening the ties between Brazil and Chile.

In February 2024, monitor Lula-Curuzu da Liberdade, along with other students from the Capoeira Angola center in Santiago, Chile, organized an event entitled Brincadeira D’Angola – 2024 with the objective of welcoming Mestre Faísca for a group update and officially establishing CEDANZE Academia João Pequeno de Pastinha – CECA ・Mestre Faísca in Santiago, Chile.

The event featured an extensive program that included lectures, “papoeira” discussions, video screenings, and classes on percussion, rhythm, and traditional music from Capoeira Angola and Samba do Recôncavo Baiano.

It was a week of cultural activities dedicated to Afro-Brazilian roots, and a historic moment for the expansion of Capoeira Angola in the country, allowing practitioners to live a complete, holistic existential experience that united body, music, community, and ancestry.
