The STEAMER of the CEDANZE Academia João Pequeno de Pastinha – CECA – Mestre Faísca sailing in Brazilian and foreign waters non-stop, presenting the richness of Bahia through Afro-Brazilian culture contained in traditional Capoeira Angola and Samba de Roda do Recôncavo.
Our last stop was the port of CUENCA – Spain, where the paradise of the Casa colgadas (Hanging Houses) welcomed us, and we presented BRINCADEIRA D’ANGOLA – CUENCA 2025, which was a success!
The Brincadeira d’Angola Cuenca – 2025 program was tailor-made within the human, physical and financial resources we had available, and with our goodwill, the end result was excellent!
We started the EVENT in Cuenca with a Capoeira Angola class on Wednesday 26/02, where we were able to work with the group on some of the physical, instrumental and musical elements of Capoeira Angola within the technique of Mestre João Pequeno de Pastinha and the Samba Roda of the recôncavo!
On Saturday morning, March 1, it was time to prepare the set, set up the photo exhibition and put the finishing touches to it. To do this, we dismantled a permanent decoration from the San Antón Social Center and set up a photo exhibition and the Brincadeira D’Angola – Cuenca set.
The exhibition showcased our school’s activities in Spain, the participation of Javier de La hoz, the head of the center in Cuenca, along with other members, in the Angola Biennial – 2015 which took place in Brazil in the city of Salvador – BA, and in CECA events in France. In addition to the photo exhibition, we presented a video telling the story of the founding of CEDANZE AJPP-CECA – Mestre Faísca in Spain, starting in the city of Madrid and ending in Cuenca – Spain.
On the last day, we started with the Capoeira Angola and Samba workshop that was on the program, followed by the Capoeira Angola and Samba de Roda Vadiação. We had a joyful audience, who interacted with us by actively participating in the Samba de Roda. At the end, we opened the floor to the public, who not only thanked us and gave us affection, but also made motivating comments, showing their approval of our work. After the event, we dismantled the exhibition and put the panels back up permanently in the San Antón Social Center!
After the event, we were invited by the local team to have dinner at a restaurant in Cuenca, where we could enjoy a varied menu with a wealth of local cuisine and good wines. At the restaurant we had a team of attentive professionals who tried to put us at ease. This warm, welcoming reception from the Spaniards corresponds with the values and aims of CEDANZE AJPP-CECA – Mestre Faísca, and helps tourists passing through Cuenca Spain to take away good memories of the city of Casas Colgadas and its inhabitants!
One detail: The printed newspaper “Las Noticias de Cuenca” carried out an interview during the event, in which it dedicated an entire page of its newspaper to my story, and about the Capoeira Angola event that was being held in Cuenca – Spain. If you’d like to read the interview, just click on the panel below, which will take you to the digital periodical La Noticias!
We would like to thank our production team, the audience, the Cuenca City Council, the San Antón Social Center, the newspaper Las Noticias de Cuenca, and all the people who contributed to this event!
